August and September, I found myself with the impulse to get out and do something, which ended up meaning I drove to the city, specifically North Beach, several times. See also: a taco bell, see also: Palace of Fine arts and Environs, even though the latter was in July.
I’m actually doing a longitudinal study of the different slice houses concentrated near the south east corner of Washington Square. Tony’s was my old favorite, Golden Boy is the new contender; I think I’m gonna try Flour and Water the next time I go over there. Anyway none of these pictures are of pizza because I’m not a Food Photographer, those dudes are crazy (complimentary).
It’s an interesting place for street photography, because there’s a mix of locals and tourists, the hills make the light interesting, and above all it’s busy in a way a lot of places aren’t. You can stand (or, let’s be honest about my last six months, sit) in one spot and just wait a minute and something will happen. I love spots like that, even if they aren’t photogenic.
Before you worry about the darkness of these pictures, and yr. humble correspondent’s corresponding temperment, fear not, it was just a grey ass day, and I felt like honoring that with these edits. I could have blasted the exposure and contrast but a light touch is usually best.
Anyway, election day. I’m pretty tired of all that and hopefully we’ll get the outcome we need to stop the bleeding. I voted weeks ago, yes on 40, no on 41, 42, and no on a bunch of the rest too. We’ll get a brief respite, and then hopefuls will start campaigning for 2028. Someone should invent a form of government that isn’t so exhausting. Other countries have this. Limits on campaigning time and spend now! Tax the billionaires out of existence! Open the borders and tear down the prisons! (Imagine me being dragged off stage by security)
This trip I actually ended up walking all the way to Fisherman’s Wharf, which is surprisingly close. Downhill going, too, which was nice. Where North Beach is lively and full of people into the evening, the Wharf was dead, nobody and nothing happening. Nobody lives there, I guess? At least not in the tourist strip by the water.
