I am once again terribly behind on posting, but I swear I have a good excuse. I was a little bit dying (enlarged kidneys pressing on my other organs) and work really was getting ahead of me (football season) and so here we are three months after the fact and I’m just now getting around to blogging these. I am off work on medical leave and post-surgery, on the mend, so all is well on that front. Well, all is at least improving on that front. The blogging will continue, at any rate.
This was kind of a last minute deal, my friend Casey asked me to come to this thing that I kind of thought was an after-party for a play she was producing; turns out it was an immersive theater experience after-party, where some portion of the partygoers were still in character. The conceit is that the cast have figured out the true god is actually the Golden Calf, and cows in general, and there’s a whole thing. I imagine the actual play which I missed made some of that clearer, but as usual I was playing catch-up.
The whole thing: the party (it was a party, open bar, nice spread of food) was structured to mirror cult induction; I assume that was on purpose. Near the front was a tea room, nice cushions, ‘believers’ serving tea and conversation. Mid-party, there was a lounge area, the bar, and a stage where various acts were singing and playing music. Then at the back of the event there was an outdoor area with a large art car (big stainless angels and the golden calf itself). And then there was the inner sanctum, where the real Truths are revealed (dance music, tarot readings, and a big finish late in the evening).
It was actually a lot of fun and sort of slotted into a weekend where I was otherwise scrambling to finish the framing for my show at Local Economy.
